The former imperial city of Hue in central Vietnam ranked eighth in a list of 25 culture destinations in the world as voted by readers of Tripadvisor.

“There are endless must-see historic sites, especially those that are UNESCO World Heritage designated. Sightseeing can include the ornate Imperial Citadel, colorful Thanh Toan Bridge, royal tombs and the Forbidden City,” Tripadvisor recommended.

Hue used to be the feudal capital of Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam’s last royal family (1802-1945) and famed for its royal mausoleums and other historic heritages.

The Imperial City, built in 1803, served as the country’s capital until 1945. It is part of the Hue Ancient Citadel, which was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.

In Hue, royal tombs are far from the downtown and have now become popular tourist attractions that receive thousands of visitors every year.

Cuba was named the world’s most cultural destination.

As part of this year’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations awards, the rankings are calculated based on the quality and quantity of reviews from travelers globally on Tripadvisor between Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023.
